My Lebanese friend George Emil told me that there was a public event being held to bolt new routes in Jordan to promote climbing tourism. So I thought to myself I am all about that!
The gathering was being organized by Hakim Tamimi-Mariño founder of local tour company Tropical Desert . He has been at the for front of all types of adventure tourism in Jordan. It is based in Ammam http://tropicaldeserttrips.com/
It was being held north of the capital Ammon 1 hour half drive in a small valley of Irqu el doobie
Already a established climbing area Hakim saw the potential to make it into a major sport area in Jordan. Partnered with the municipality and rallied some sponsors. He provided transportation lodging and food during the bolting and the results were amazing see.
The bolters were mostly from Spain and members of the Alpine climbing club of Catalonia
Strong crew of course! I opened routes on a nice steep wall of orange rock.
I opened four lines there 6c , 6c+ , 8a+ that Edu did the FA, and a one project on the far right in the 8b range.
We are joined by the Jordanian climbing community, especially on the weekend week we camped out sampled arak and swapped stories around the fire. Awesome time!
Then the next week we moved down the famous Wadi Rum, awesome place, took a break from bolting and did some trad climbing on some classics. It was a great time.
